Less than 10% of our people use public transport so it makes sense to invest more money where our people want it, and that’s just what the government is doing in Christchurch.
This week mayor Phil Mauger talked with Chris Lynch Media about the $90 million the has been secured for the city.
In 2018 Labour said they would look at $100 million for trains, but it never pulled into the station.
Later it pledged $78 million for public transport, but then got voted out before it could deliver.
Now $90 million is pledged.
The big question is, can Phil Mauger bank the cash and get the projects at least started before something else changes?
He says he returned $78 thousand for a report that wasn’t going anywhere, and we all know about the $7.2m spent on the Wheels To Wings cycleway that has delivered nothing but reports and designs so far.
The acid is on and an election is coming and for re-election the public is going to have to see some real dirt turned.
