You would think that a long-haul jet that uses 100,000 to litres of jet fuel to get from London to Christchurch is a bad thing but in fact it’s not.

Global tourism is about the lesser of two evils.

The evil we are trying to avoid is war which is far more taxing on the environment then long haul air flight.

When thinking about these things from an environmental perspective you have to consider many factors not just climate emissions created by the use of jet fuel.If you are lucky enough to walk through the door of a Boeing 777 airliner then you have already achieved something significant in your life especially if you are flying into Christchurch.

For most people buying a ticket on a Boeing 777 means some attrition some saving and some conscious effort to behave yourself well in employment to be able to save the amount of money required to buy a ticket.

My current concern in countries like Israel, Iran, Palestine, the Ukraine and Russia, is that the communities have got far too invested in fighting with each other and not invested in spending their time working out how they can personally travel the world and experience everything the world has to offer.

In countries like China and South Korea the people know that they need to behave themselves well so that they can amass the amount of wealth required to get out of the country for a short time and see other parts of the world.

Christchurch New Zealand has become a factory for providing outstanding tourism opportunities. From the murals in our streets to the convention centres swimming pools town halls libraries and other facilities dedicated for providing great tourism experiences the city has been turned into a holiday destination.

Lots of people are involved in the construction and operation of Boeing 777 around the world. These are people who could equally be redeployed into industry to create bombs and other things to drive Wars however Airlines create the opportunity for Engineers and scientists to redeploy their expertise into something more productive that protects the planet and humanity.

While you may count the carbon emissions from a single 777 journey I count the cabin emissions from firing a missile into hospital building and then the associated devastation that creates a lot more environmental damage then simply flying from the Middle East into Christchurch.I also turn my mind to thinking about the attrition that individuals make so they can purchase airline tickets which might include rethinking the amount of disposable fashion clothing they buy or the number of takeaways they purchase that involve waste going to landfill.

Fuel is one of the most significant costs in flying a Boeing 777 around the world but it is by far not the only cost and in fact pushes a huge amount of money into different communities for all sorts of service jobs that support passinggers getting from one place to another.

Telecommunications and technology people from around the world can be spending their time working out how to create newer and better more advanced missile guidance systems or how they can install Wi-Fi on every passenger aircraft. We also need to consider the relationship building aspects of flying people around the world.Sending people on a holiday to New Zealand gives them the opportunity to see a different way of living and also meet many other people of like mind who are also traveling around the world at the same time they are.

When we become insular in our homes we start to break down socially and argue with each other whether that be simple relationship breakups, family squabbles or domestic violence.Recently I’ve spent quite a bit of time reading more about the Apollo Space Program and considering the value of that to the American community and also the global Community when everyone was brought together for a single cause that was to get to the moon. At the same time in history military organizations had grand plans to dominate space with nuclear weapons and other military programs many of which fell by the eayside as the people who were best able and most interested in going to space gravitated towards a single focus of getting a man on the moon.

The same thinking on a smaller scale can be applied to family units where a family may work together to economise and save and work and focus on a goal of empowering themselves to travel around the globe to see a different community that being Christchurch New Zealand.

In New Zealand the same ideals also apply to our own community who are often too busy being swept up and questions like what is a woman and should treaty principles be changed which causes huge rifts and division in our community.

We spend too much of our idle time reading media clickbait considering things like weather a politician is suitable for office or who should control the chlorine in the water.

In the process our media tends to cause anxiety and depression which then leads to some very environmentally unsustainable outcomes such as us simply purchasing more takeaways and sending more takeaway containers to landfill.

The goal of flying to London to see where the King lives or listen to big Ben chime gives us focus purpose and a reason for knuckling down and providing service to each other in the community in order to gain reward so that we can achieve these outstanding personal events.

When you start to set your mind to thinking about these things and what have written you can quickly see how the environmental impact of long-haul flying can be considerably less than the impact of everything else that we might do instead such as owning more than one car and not using public transport taking a walk or using a bicycle so you can save your money to be able to tour the world.
